2020 Wachenheimer Gerümpel 1. Cru Pfalz Dr. Bürklin-Wolf

Neighboring the Pechstein grand cru and cultivated on red and yellow red sandstone, the 2020 Wachenheimer Gerümpel P.C. represents a rather warm terroir with frequent foehn heating but, given the warm vintage, combines intensity and a coolish finesse on the fresh and stony nose that integrates ripe and warm but elegant and precise Riesling fruit. Lush but very elegant and refined on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, well-structured and persistently saline premier cru with an impressive texture and finish that reveals bread notes and a tight structure lifted by fine tannins and saline vitality. From the 13 hectares of this cru, which was first mentioned in 1429, Bürklin's share amounts to 6.2 hectares. The site name goes back to the owner in the 15th century, named Grympel, and shouldn't be mixed up with clutter, the literal translation of Gerümpel. The 2020 is an excellent Gerümpel!
