2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1.Cru Les Cherbaudes V. Vignes Fourri

Cherbaudes, named after a vineyard where little grows, is on very hard soils on the southern side of the village. There's a hint of green malt on the nose here, with saline acidity, sappy freshness, firm structure and impressive minerality, allied to the classic Fourrier fruit sweetness. 2018-28.

This too is wonderfully complex with its layered aromas of black cherry, spice, floral, game and smoke hints. The flavor profile is at once lush yet precise with lovely purity to the lightly mineral-inflected and subtly powerful finish that is beautifully well-balanced and persistent. This is terrific and absolutely worth considering.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Cherbaudes has an elegant bouquet, very pure with a slight metallic note suffusing the maraschino cherry, raspberry preserve and orange zest aromas that are very defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite conservative in some ways, gentle grip in the mouth with a brisk, saline finish. I would just like to see more personality develop here.

Bright medium red. Cranberry, red licorice and a hint of game on the nose, lifted by a topnote of rose petal. Not a fleshy style but juicy, penetrating and nicely delineated, with harmonious acidity extending the finish. Jean-Marie Fourrier described this premier cru as "beautifully located but unknown".
