2020 Barolo Rocche dell´Annunziata Trediberri

93P+: The 2020 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is a bright, classically built wine that will need a few years in bottle to truly blossom. Reticent aromatics and driving tannins hold the wine back quite a bit. This fruit was picked on October 1, before the rains. I find the 2020 quite austere and tight at this stage. Perhaps it will unfurl with time. We will see.

Aromas of blue flower, rose, menthol and dark brown exotic spice take shape on the elegantly structured Trediberri 2020 Rocche dell’Annunziata. Full-bodied and elegantly structured, the savory, youthful palate features ripe Morello cherry, blood orange, star anise and a hint of ground clove alongside enveloping, velvety tannins.

Ashy minerals with tangy citrus, red cherries, spices and a touch of graphite. Chalky, fine-grained tannins on the palate with a full body and a tight, angular finish. A touch of white pepper at the end. Nicely austere. Drink from 2027.

Ripe ruby red, the 2020 Barolo Rocche Dell’Annunziata is spicy with aromas of candied oranges, dried cranberries, incense, clove, and dried roses. The palate is finessed and expresses a lot of elegance (true to what you expect from La Morra), with fine tannins and balanced freshness and acidity. Long on the palate, it has exceptional purity with balanced depth, and it’s going to offer a wide drinking window over the next 15-20 years.

This Barolo is a standout, offering a nose reminiscent of black cherries and cola spice, along side ripe black raspberries and plums that effortlessly lift from the glass. Subtle notes of earth and wild herbs provide contrast while savory spices contribute to the wine's alluring character. The palate is a masterful balance of elegance and restrained power, hinting at the wine's immense potential. The purity of fruit shines through, unencumbered by excess, while the graceful structure suggests a long life ahead. This Barolo is a testament to the winemaker's skill and the vineyard's exceptional terroir.
