2008 Gevrey-Chambertin 1. Cru Clos St-Jacques Dom. Fourrier

A beautiful panoply of floral and herbal suffused red and blue pinot fruit liberally laced with ample minerality that also defines the textured and ultra pure middle weight flavors that possess excellent precision and verve on the driving and wonderfully long and linear finish.

The 2008 Gevrey- Chambertin Clos St. Jacques engages all of the senses with its cool, mineral-laced fruit and expressive bouquet. This shows marvelous tension and energy, not to mention fabulous overall balance. It could not be more different in style than the 2009 tasted alongside it. Both are fabulous, though. The 2008 is one of the more backward wines of the vintage and will require considerable patience. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2033.

Good deep, saturated red. Wonderfully complex nose combines raspberry, musky minerality, smoke and game, all lifted by a floral nuance; an essence of Clos Saint-Jacques. Then silky on the palate, with captivating notes of raspberry, minerals and dried flowers and a lovely light touch. Perhaps most impressive on the slow-building finish, which features sweet, fine-grained tannins and subtle hints of flowers and spices. This has the nobility of a grand cru.
