2019 Boekenhoutskloof Syrah Swaartland

The wine that launched the modern Syrah revolution in South Africa, even if it's sourced from two sites in the Swartland these days, rather than Somerset West. Almost indecently perfumed and alluring, this is a very immediate wine that will also reward cellaring. Sweet spices, red berry fruit, fine, savoury tannins and just a hint of oak with energetic acidity.

The 2019 Syrah is very perfumed on the nose, offering black cherries, boysenberry, pressed rose petal and incense. This really expresses the variety with style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained, supple tannins and well-judged acidity. Smooth and intense, yet quite gentle and caressing on the finish. This is a delicious Syrah that should drink well for 15–20 years.

Lovely classical aromas of bramble berry, sappy spices, grilled herbs and meaty nuances. The palate is fresh, wonderfully poised and elegant, with a tangy acidity.

Lovely aromas of red cherries, blackberries, grilled plums and charred rosemary. Medium- to full-bodied with silky tannins. Fruit soaked with nuance and spicy character. Focused and linear with a textured finish. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

A bright, harmonious red, with an enticing introduction of light floral and spice notes, featuring a rich, focused flavor range of damson plum preserves and dried raspberry, herbed olive and loamy earth wrapped around supple tannins. Lovely.
