The same clean cut glowing purple colour. The nose though shows an extra degree of class, essence of Volnay, concentrated young rose petals on top of the red berry fruit. A spiritual side to it says Guillaume. Certainly, I find a feeling of great contentment in tasting it! So much energy behind. An excellent prolonged aftertaste.

The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru has wonderful delineation on the nose, pure Pinoté, more vibrant than the Fremiets with impressive focus and delicacy. This eschews the power of the vintage for something more refined. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. This Volnay gets the saliva flowing, but it is a more cerebral take on the season, less fruit-driven, with a more understated finish than its peers. Impressive piquancy and sapidity (again) on the finish.

The 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets bursts with aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, rose petals, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and ethereal, with a pure core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, mouthwateringly mineral finish, it returns to the range in style after suffering in the frosts of 2021.

(from two parcels measuring .65 ha). A much spicier and more floral nose combines aromas of lavender, violet and exotic tea with those of black currant and poached plum. The lacy, delineated and more mineral-driven flavors are also delicate while retaining excellent punch and drive on the balanced, firm and classy finale. This is classic Caillerets that should also amply repay extended keeping.
