2020 Corton Grand Cru Les Grandes Lolieres Domaine Henri Felettig

The 2020 Corton Les Grands Lolieres Grand Cru, which debuted in ‘18, comes from 60-year old vines and is matured with 40% whole bunch. It has an intense bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry and light cassis aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, quite opulent and slightly savory, orange rind and marmalade notes towards the finish.

Riper liqueur-like aromas include those of cassis, dark cherry, roasted plum and whiffs of earth and the sauvage. The supple and extraordinarily rich big-bodied flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract while buffering the firm tannic spine shaping the chewy, serious and austere finale where noticeable warmth slowly appears. This is one of those wines that is hard to rating because there is much to admire but the warmth isn’t subtle. Some will undoubtedly admire it for its size, weight and power and some will criticize it for being rather atypical.
