Clear pale colour. The bouquet is strongly in the fresh apple mode with some riper plum fruit lurking behind. Quite strong acidity, no shortage of fruit, this will need some time to come together. Some orange blossom and fresh quince now showing.

The 2020 Meursault Santenots 1er Cru was very primal and leesy on the nose, grapefruit, camomile and kiwi fruit scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, pear and gooseberry on the entry, cutting acidity with a straightforward, lightly spiced finish. Maybe just a little conservative, but this is well-crafted.

Revealing aromas of pear, citrus zest, hazelnuts and honeycomb, the 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Santenots is medium to full-bodied, ample and precise, with chalky structure and a saline finish.

(from a parcel of 30+ year old vines in Les Plures). Moderate reduction is enough to render the nose difficult to read at present. More interesting are the equally racy and markedly saline-inflected medium weight flavors that possess very good persistence on the chiseled and youthfully austere finale. Note that this relatively forward effort will need to add depth with a few years of bottle aging to merit the upper end of my projected range.

Deep in colour and generous in texture. Oak and stone fruit flavours on the palate which displays plenty of citric acidity. A classy Meursault which delivers the weight and complexity expected from this 1er Cru.
